Save the filter as part of the equipment record
Do not keep the filter size in a random note called house stuff. Save it with the HVAC system or air handler it belongs to, especially if the home has more than one unit.
- Filter size printed on the old filter
- MERV rating or preferred type if you use one
- Equipment location, such as attic, basement, hallway, or garage
- Number of filters needed for one change
- Any airflow notes from your HVAC technician
Attach the replacement supply
Once you know the right filter, save the supply and the reorder link. If you change brands later, update the saved supply so the next reminder does not send you back to search from scratch.
Heart Of The House lets supplies stay connected to tasks and equipment, so a filter reminder can point back to the HVAC record and the replacement you actually use.
Set a reminder that matches the home
A common interval is every one to three months, but pets, dust, construction, allergies, smoke, and equipment guidance can change that. Start with the manufacturer's or technician's advice, then adjust based on what you see when you check the filter.
- Create a recurring filter-change task
- Include the equipment location in the task note
- Link the saved filter supply
- Log unusual dust, noise, or airflow changes
